Beginning: Police received a report of a Toyota Supra driving erratically, crashing into a concrete median, causing a tire blowout, but continuing to drive.
First escape attempt: When stopped by police, driver Victor Rivas (40 years old) showed signs of intoxication. During questioning, he suddenly fled and jumped from the elevated highway into a swamp below to escape.
Second escape attempt and crocodile attack: Authorities coordinated a search and found Rivas walking along Highway 61. Seeing police approaching, Rivas again plunged into another swamp. There, a crocodile attacked and bit both of his arms (the entire incident was recorded by a police dashcam).
Arrest: Despite being bitten by the crocodile, Rivas stubbornly swam and hid in the mud. Police had to use drone technology to locate and apprehend him as he was crawling out of the woods.
What started as a police pursuit over suspected drunk driving turned into a scene straight out of a movie.
Victor Rivas, 40, is accused of driving under the influence when he was stopped by authorities in Louisiana. According to investigators, Rivas was driving recklessly on Interstate 10 before crashing into a concrete barrier.
But instead of surrendering, he decided to run.
Authorities say the suspect jumped from an elevated section of the highway and disappeared into a swampy area in an attempt to avoid arrest. For hours, he managed to evade law enforcement as officers searched for him on the ground and from the air.
However, the escape took a shocking turn when Rivas allegedly ran into another swamp after spotting officers closing in around him.
That’s when the unthinkable happened.
An alligator emerged from the water and attacked him, causing injuries to both of his arms. Despite being wounded, Rivas reportedly continued trying to flee before eventually being located by police drones and taken into custody.
After receiving medical treatment, Rivas was arrested and now faces multiple charges, including driving under the influence, resisting arrest, reckless driving, and hit-and-run charges connected to the initial incident.
The bizarre case quickly went viral across social media, with many calling it one of the strangest police chases of the year.
What seemed like an escape route turned into a nightmare deep in the Louisiana swamps.

He found an alligator instead. State Troopers responded to reports of a Toyota Supra driving wildly on Interstate 10. That’s when they tried to stop Victor M. Rivas, according to a press release. The Louisiana man wasn’t intending to go to jail despite suffering a tire blowout and striking a concrete barrier.
According to police, they observed signs that Rivas was impaired. He then fled from state troopers on foot. Ultimately, Rivas jumped over a barrier separating the interstate from a nearby swamp. State troopers managed to track down his general location. Upon seeing the police, he ran back into the swamp.
“When law enforcement approached, he fled again into a swampy area, where he was attacked by an alligator and sustained injuries to both arms,” the press release alleges. “Despite his injuries, Rivas continued fleeing before being located and apprehended with the assistance of drone technology.”
Fortunately, bad decisions didn’t lead to any deaths. Police managed to arrest Rivas and take him to a local hospital for treatment. he did not suffere life-threatening injuries. Likewise, the alligator wasn’t harmed in this case either.
But the Louisiana man has a legal battle ahead. Police charged him with operating a vehicle while impaired and resisting an officer among other charges.
“Impaired driving can lead to serious and unpredictable consequences. Motorists are urged to make responsible decisions, plan ahead, and always designate a sober driver,” the press release states. “Louisiana State Police appreciates the strong partnership and coordinated efforts of the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office in bringing this incident to a successful resolution
A Louisiana alligator decided to help out in a police chase on Sunday.
State troopers responded to reports of a Toyota engaging in reckless driving on the I-10 in Jefferson Parrish. According to police, the vehicle struck a concrete barrier on the highway and blew a tire before they were able to stop it on the southbound lanes of I-310 in St. Charles Parish.
The driver, Victor M. Rivas, was visibly impaired according to officers on the scene and ran from the vehicle, jumping into the swamp below where he was then attacked by an alligator.
Rivas sustained injuries to both arms but continued to run until police were able to track him down with use of a drone where he was taken to the hospital for his injuries.
