A quiet Monday evening in Chico, California, was completely shattered when a lone gunman opened fire inside a public library. Police have arrested 18-year-old resident Bradley Scott Sayer, booking him into the Butte County Jail on two counts of murder.
According to authorities, the recent high school graduate killed two adult men and left a young child injured during the senseless attack. Disturbingly, investigators revealed that Sayer was obsessed with the 1999 Columbine High School massacre. Thanks to rapid police response, officers apprehended him within four minutes, preventing further tragedy. This heartbreaking event has left the community deeply shaken.
An 18-year-old gunman, Bradley Scott Sayer, carried out a fatal shooting on June 22, 2026, at the Chico Branch of the Butte County Library in Chico, CA, which law enforcement officials state was modeled after the 1999 Columbine High School massacre.
The attack resulted in the deaths of two adults and left one child injured, all randomly targeted.
The question I have is was he on any type of meds as Harris was?
At the time of the Columbine shooting, Harris had taken Luvox for his anger, anxiety, depression, disorganized thoughts, homicidal thoughts, suspiciousness and a temper – having been switched from Zoloft. One of Harris’ victims, Mark Taylor, along with a New Jersey police officer who killed six people while on Luvox, sued Solvay, the drug’s maker. (Matthew Beck, from Connecticut, who killed four of his co-workers and himself while on Luvox, couldn’t join them.) Taylor said: “I’m suing Solvay because I believe that Eric Harris did what he did because of this drug.” Dr. Peter Breggin’s report to the court stated: “[At] the time he committed multiple homicides and suicide, Eric Harris was suffering from a substance induced (Luvox-induced) mood disorder with depressive and manic features that had reached a psychotic level of violence and suicide….Absent persistent exposure to Luvox, Eric Harris probably would not have committed violence and suicide.”
FBI Special Agent Siddhartha Patel outlined investigators’ findings in the Chico library shooting, identifying the suspect as 18-year-old Bradley Scott Sayer and describing the sequence of events leading up to the attack.
A California teenager who wanted to commit a ‘Columbine-style massacre’ killed two people in a shooting at a library on Monday, police say. The gunman, identified as Bradley Scott Sayer, 18, opened fire at the Butte County Library in Chico, California around 5pm. An open 911 line allowed dispatchers to hear a number of gunshots and people screaming in the library, where a child was also injured alongside the two people who were killed. Sayer ran out of the library after being confronted by police, where two more officers then arrested him as he tried to flee, police said. Chico Police identified the gunman as Sayer on Tuesday, as he was charged with two open counts of murder.
